Minor Trust Accounts
Canyon National Bank is pleased to have established an FDIC-insured deposit account customized to meet the needs of our Tribal customers who set aside monies for their children.
Canyon's Minor Trust Account is an interest-bearing savings product, a liquid account that allows unlimited deposits. Earnings are maximized as the interest rate is tied to Canyon National Bank's One Year Certificate of Deposit rate which is subject to change quarterly.
By authority of a resolution, an individual account is established for each minor with the Tribe as Trustee. Daily compounded interest is deposited to the account quarterly after which individual statements are issued to the Tribe typically within 15 days following the quarter-end. The Tribe may request withdrawal of the funds at any time as directed by the resolution, but are typically held until the minor's 18th birthday. With written authorization, funds are immediately issued in the form of a Cashier's Check and sent directly to either the Minor or to the Tribe, as directed. For tax purposes, individual 1099's are remitted to the Tribe annually.
